This is my first hippie song I guess. It’s also one of those you never expect or intend to do. There are certain songs that just come out of the blue when you’re not playing or singing at all. This time I was having breakfast on a sunday morning when suddenly I heard a guitar riff in my head, so I had to stop and pick up the guitar. It didn’t sound like anything I’d done before, so I didn’t know what to sing along with those chords. It kind of reminded me of Simon and Garfunkel songs and stuff like that from the hippie era, so I tried to take it that way and started writing about building a house on a tree and moving out to the country. I think it took me about a week to get the lyrics done and I recorded the song the next weekend.

LYRICS:

I’m gonna build a house up on a sycamore tree
I’m gonna make it a home
Gonna fill it with love
Gonna fill it with dreams

I’m gonna plow the fields just like we did in the past
I’m gonna rip all the crop
You cannot do it fast
You’ve got to do it slow

‘Cause I don’t know where I go
And I don’t know what I do
But I cannot spend all my life just waiting, waiting like somebody’s fool

No I won’t, no I won’t have a chance
No I won’t have a chance
As long as I am here
As long as I feel safe

Got to sell my car
Should have pawned my shoes
Gonna pay my debts and rent a chance
Gonna lose my blues

‘Cause I don’t know where I go
And I don’t know what I do
But I cannot spend all my life just waiting, waiting like somebody’s fool

Yes I believe, I do believe in the power love
In a faraway dream, in the natural speed
In the power of love

Yes I believe, I do believe in the power love
In a faraway dream, in the natural speed
In the power of love

‘Cause I don’t know where I go
And I don’t know what I do
But I cannot spend all my life just waiting, waiting like somebody’s fool
