Harvey has a new concept music video for his original song “Clones” which satirizes the dynamics of online dating and how it promotes social stereotypes over individuality. The video premieres on his YouTube channel on Tuesday 23rd January at 7pm (GMT).
The video depicts a dystopian reality where young people don’t trust dating apps anymore. A new app named “Clones” is being launched and advertised everywhere but nobody takes it seriously. The app profiles seem to be fake and played by the same user.
Harvey morphs int all the clichéd personas using different outfits and TikTok filters while singing the lyrics.
His multiple incarnations include hipsters, ravers, queers, emos, goths, bikers, a courier, a clown, a hermit, a trawlerman and even impersonators of Johnny Depp and James Bond with a nod at the infamous Martini TV spot.
The video also offers a reflection about fashion and role models in a society shaped by mass media and consumerism. While a few people are genuine, they are turned into icons by taste-makers and packaged as stereotypes for the rest of us.
“Clones” is included in Harvey Springfield’s fifth album “Sick Sick World” which was released on October 27th 2023 across all digital platforms.
